12,000 MT of LP gas purchased by Government to meet current shortage

Colombo, Nov 05 (BAN/ AD): As there is severe shortage of LPG Finance Ministry has made arrangements to make an emergency purchase of 12,000 metric tons of domestic LP gas. This arrangement will fulfil the prevailing shortage in the domestic market.

Finance ministry has instructed Litro Gas Company which comes under Finance Ministry will import 12000 MT og LPG and will release them to the market with immediate effect.

On Saturday Nov 2 shipload of gas carrying 3,600 metric tons docked in the Colombo Port and other tanker carrying 3,600 metric tons of gas will arrive in the Port Tuesday. In addition, another shipload of gas carrying 3600 metric tons will arrive in the country Saturday (09) as well.

At the same time, under the emergency purchase, placed under the ordinary procurement procedure, 6,000 metric tons of gas will reach the country within next week. In addition, the Consumer Affairs Authority has raided about 40 gas sales outlets which exploited this gas shortage, hid their stocks and sold them at higher prices later.
