2 Rohingyas arrested trying to enter India with Bangladeshi passports

Dhaka, July 5 (BAN/ AD): Two Rohingya’s were arrested today trying to cross over to India via Akhaura. They were arrested by Bangladesh Immigration Police in Brahmanbaria. They were held from Akhaura land port on Thursday afternoon. Their names are Md Kamal, 24, and Sabbir Mollah, 22, as per police sources. Both have confessed to being Rohingya.

Kamal’s passport was issued from Noakhali and listed his address as Comilla, and Sabbir’s passport issued from Dhaka listed his address as Rajbari. They were questioned by police seeing their suspicious behaviour. He said although they had both India and Myanmar’s visa on their passports, they were unable to disclose their identities properly, which made the law enforcement wary of them.

They have said they are residents of Cox Bazar’s Balukhali camp. They were later handed over to Akhaura police. Police are investigating how they acquired their passports.
