Colombo, July 25 (BAN/ AD): A 3 member committee has been formed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe which will probe into the views expressed by the Minister of Highways and Road Development Ranjan Ramanayake in videos posted on his social media networks related to his comments on the Maha Sangha. Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana will head the three-member committee.
The 3 members of committee are Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Minister of Public Administration, Disaster Management and Rural Economic Affairs and Malik Samarawickrama, Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade.
The committee will make recommendations to PM Ranil after conducting a formal investigation into the statements and the videos made by Ramanayake. Ramanayake has been accused of saying that young monks are sexually abused at temples and that around 90% of Buddhist monks who behave in an aggressive manner had been abused when they were young.
