Colombo, July 20 (BAN/ AD): Around 31,500 police officers who were denied promotion earlier for long time will be promoted by President Maithripala Sirisena. He has taken steps to introduce a regularized procedure for appointments and promotions of Police officers at executive grade.
President’s Media Division said for a long time appointments and promotions at the Department of Police were not carried out in a proper manner and this move is a result of directions given by the President. The National Police Commission has approved the new procedure related to appointment and promotions and will be implemented in the near future.
New methodology for appointments and promotions will be introduced soon Department of Police too. The high level meeting was held at Presidential Secretariat on Friday between President Sirisena and senior official at the Department of Police. The decision to promote 31,500 Police officers from Constables to Sub Inspectors of Police was taken. There was also discussion to construct the Police Headquarters in Fort.
