32 people stranded in floods rescued by Sri Lanka Navy

Colombo, Dec 21 (BAN/ AD): On Saturday Sri Lanka Navy today rescued 28 people stranded by the floods in the Dikwewa village in Ipalogama, Anuradhapura due to the overflowing of Kala Wewa. Navy also rescued 4 people stuck due to flooding of the Attimale Vila Oya.

As per sources 4 men were engaged in the cultivation of the maize fields were caught in the floods. As extreme weather is prevalent Navy said it has deployed a number of relief teams in many areas.

On the directions of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Navy relief teams are kept on standby at each Naval Command to be deployed in case of emergency. Naval personnel belonging to the Sri Lanka Navy Marines, Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Unit (4RU), Special Boat Squadron (SBS) and Diving Unit trained to provide relief in case of emergency, are attached to these relief teams.
