5 Indian fishermen arrested by Navy for illegally fishing in Lankan waters

Colombo, Sep 19 (BAN/ AD): On Wednesday 5 Indian fishermen were arrested by Sri Lanka Navy from Tamil Nadu for allegedly breaching the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and illegally fishing.

The arrest took place at a northwest of the Kovilam Point when Naval officers from the Northern Naval Command during a patrol arrested the Indian fishermen along with a fishing trawler used for fishing.

Nave took arrested fishermen and the seized trawler was brought to SLNS Elara. The group of fishermen will be handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna for onward action, after a medical examination.
