Colombo, Oct 10 (BAN/ AD): A great day for Lankan army as it celebrates 70th anniversary. Lankan army established in 1949 in post-Independence Ceylon, will be marking 70th anniversary today with a series of military exercises.
Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said “Because of those sacrifices, we have been able to enjoy today’s spirits of independence and freedom,” he added the Army in the past 70 years as the dignified Defender of the Nation fulfilled an arduous role amid numerous challenges and threats against the country and the people and is still performing an immense task for protection of the people in society.
He also applauded the Army for restoring normalcy in event of disasters emergencies and natural catastrophes, etc struck. He said “The responsibility for protection of future security and the country’s territorial integrity lies with Army personnel both today and tomorrow.”
