Colombo, Aug 19 (BAN/ AD): party leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has been declared Sri Lanka’s Marxist party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) presidential candidate. The JVP made this announcement at the National People’s Power Rally held at the Galle Face Green.
As per JVP official announcement “a person with significant experience, a strong personality, who is against arbitrariness and corruption, loves the country and acceptable to all who hope for an alternative leader ship to the country.”
Almost after 20 years the JVP is contesting a Presidential Election. In previous election party supported SLFP candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa. After that United National Front common candidate Sarath Fonseka at 2010 presidential election. JVP neither contested nor directly supported President Maithripala Sirisena at the January 2015 presidential election.
