Appellate Division of SC clears way for arrests in FR Tower case

Dhaka, July 29 (BAN/ AD): On Monday SC cancelled a High Court order that directed the two Rajuk officials to surrender before a lower court in six weeks in connection with FR Tower fire case. Anti-Corruption Commission now has go ahead to arrest 2 officials of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).

The order was passed by two-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain. Rajuk Inspector Aurangzeb Siddique Nannu and Authorised Officer Md Nazrul Islam are 2 official facing charges. The SC also scrapped a High Court order that directed the two Rajuk officials to surrender before a lower court in six weeks in connection with a case.

On July 16, the High Court asked former Rajuk chairman Engineer KM Harun and the two existing officials to surrender before a lower court. The High Court also granted Harun six-week anticipatory bail and rejected the bail petition of the two Rajuk officials, Aurangzeb Siddique Nannu and Md Nazrul Islam.

FR tower fire incident happened on March 27 killing 25 people and injuring 73 others.
