Colombo, Sep 12 (BAN/ AD): After several international airlines banning recalled Apple Macbook pro laptops Sri Lanka’s national carrier, SriLankan Airlines today has also banned the laptop. Apple has recalled Apple MacBook Pro laptops from cargo and carry-on luggage due to fire safety risk.
According to the company few older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk. The defective laptops were sold between September 2015 and February 2017. Company has cautioned that battery in these laptops can overheat, potentially swelling or igniting.
SriLankan Airlines has requested the passengers as a safety measure to verify with Apple whether their devices are affected by the recall. The passengers are requested upon check-in to produce such verifications or proof that the battery has been replaced. In the absence of such verification, their devices will not be allowed in as checked- in or carry-on luggage, the airline said.
