Arrested software engineer Aadhil Ameez plays key role in Easter attacks

Colombo, May 16 (BAN) : Aadhil Ameez, 24 year old software engineer, suspected of having provided technical and logistical support to the Easter Sunday suicide bombers was monitored by Indian intelligence three years ago for links with Islamic State suspects, Reuters report says, quoting investigators.

Aadhil Ameez is said to be the link between the two groups that carried out attacks on churches and hotels.

According to Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara Aadhil has been in police custody since April 25, four days after the attacks.

On his LinkedIn profile, Aadhil has described himself as a senior engineer/programmer/web designer with a Masters degree in computer science and a bachelor’s degree in political science from universities in the United Kingdom.

While his father M. Ameez denies allegations of his son being involved with plotters, Indian investigators monitoring him since 2016, have named him in two charge sheets filed in Indian courts against suspected Islamic State operatives as being one of their contacts.

CID sources involved in the investigation of the attacks claim say Aadhil was the main technology person for them

A police raid at Aadhil’s home four days after the attacks found all the files on his computer to be deleted.

Military sources claim he played an important role in “setting up communications for attackers, helping organize meetings and training camps”.
