BSAF claims 41 children raped in first week of June, record high

Dhaka, July 8 (BAN/ AD): Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF) claims around 80 incidents of child rape are reported each month and in June first week a record high of 41 children were raped. Among them, six were gang-raped, five were mentally-challenged, and three were killed after being raped. Moreover, 10 children have fallen victim to attempted rape. A press conference was held on Monday by BSAF where information was made public.

BSAF report is based on data collected from15 national daily newspapers, on child rights violation, rape, sexual assault, and harassment. According to the study, a total of 496 children have fallen victim to rape from January to June this year, where as the number was 571 in the entire year of 2018.

In 2018 351 children were victims of rape which is 41% increase compared to 2017.This year so far cases are on record high from past. As per report children aged 2.5 age are most prone to rape. BSAF has raised grave concern regarding this situation.
