BSEC investigation: PM intervention demanded by investors

Dhaka, Oct 29 (BAN/ AD): On Tuesday Bangladesh Pujibazar Biniogkari Oikya Parishad organised a press conference and demanded PM intervention into Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC). Press conference was organised at the National Press Club in Dhaka.

The investors urged the government to reshuffle the current commission of the capital market regulator for failure in reviving the market after the 2009-10 debacle. Bangladesh Pujibazar Biniogkari Oikya Parishad President Mizan ur Rashid Chowdhury demanded the resignation of M Khairul Hossain, the longest-serving chairman of the BSEC.

“The BSEC chairman is working for the issuer companies and stock brokers, not for investors.” Said platform’s General Secretary Abdur Razzaq. He also said present chairman should resign as he has failed to protect investors’ rights.

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) market capitalization dropped by 15.51% or Tk65,411 crore in the last nine months. The prime index, DSEX lost about 1,250 points from its highest hit of 5,950 points, since January 24 this year.
