Colombo: Minister Ravi Karunanayake’s measure to save electricity in the country, such as switching off two light bulbs at every home for a period of 3 months has got approval from Cabinet.
The maximum power supply capacity is only 2260 MW as against demand of 2600 MW on daily basis. Per day shortage is around 340 MW.
In order to reduce that deficit, scheduled power cuts are being imposed in all parts of the country for around 4 hours per day while with the intention of facing this shortage the Minister of Power and Energy Ravi Karunanayake had submitted a cabinet paper with regard to using electricity sparingly.
