Colombo, Sep 27 (BAN/ AD): On Wednesday in Colombo ‘Ceylon Spices’ master brand for the spices sector was officially launched. It will be Sri Lanka’s country-of-origin trade mark.
Malik Samarawickrama Development Strategies and International Trade Minister in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) officially unveiled the brand.
Under the National Export Strategy (NES) for export promotion Spices & Concentrates sector has been identified as apriority sector.
Minister Samarawickrama told Spices is identified as a priority action in the NES and has export target of US$ 880 million by 2022.
Minister said “The new challenge we must tackle from here onwards is to build more and more Sri Lankan brands, and take them to the world. And we will support you in this. The EDB has the Market Access Support Programme that provides matching grants and trade guidance for you to go confidently into global markets and worry less about the initial financial costs. If you had postponed thinking of branding overseas for a few years down the road, we want you to do this now – we will support you, through the various financial schemes available.”
