Church blasts: Lanka lift travel ban on British groom

Colombo, May 17 (BAN) : The British man, whose wife died two days into their honeymoon in Sri Lanka was allowed to return home after the travel ban imposed on him by a court was lifted on Wednesday.

33 year old Khilan Chandria said he would return home on Thursday and thanked Sri Lankans who helped him during the difficult time.

The remains of his wife Usheila Patel were sent back on Wednesday as the inquest into her death is put off until August. Chandria will not be required to attend, officials said.

The couple arrived at Amari Galle hotel on April 23, four days after their wedding. Two days into their stay, the couple fell ill.

Russell Cool, an Amari spokesperson told AFP last week that the couple initially decline to be taken to a local hospital but asked for help few hours later. They consumed a light meal prepared by the hotel, as did other guests who remain fine, he said.

Patel died at the hospital.
