CID questions Swiss Embassy employee, travel ban extended till the 12 Dec

Colombo, Dec 09 (BAN/ AD): On Monday CID interrogated for second time local female Swiss Embassy staff, who was allegedly abducted and questioned by an unidentified people. Garnier Banister Francis abducted staff appeared before the Judicial Medical Officer and was interrogated for nearly three hours. She has returned to the CID again and continued recording the statement.

It is alleged that on November 25 Garnier Banister Francis, who has not officially made a complaint about the alleged abduction and sexual assault appeared before the CID for the first time Sunday and recorded her statement for around 5 hours. Colombo Chief Magistrate extended her travel ban until the 12th of this month.

CID has got complaint from Swiss Embassy on 27 November alleging that the woman was abducted by five persons in a white car near the St. Bridget’s Convent in Cinnamon Gardens on 25th November. As per complaint received the female officer was abducted, sexually assaulted and questioned about granting visa to CID inspector Nishantha Silva. After checking her phone and detaining for few hours the victim was released.

Following the preliminary investigations by the CID, the Ministry of Affairs informed the Embassy that there are contradictions between evidence collected by the CID and the account presented by the embassy on the alleged victim’s movements on the day of the attack.
