CID says no evidence to prove abduction of Swiss Embassy staff

Colombo, Dec 14 (BAN/ AD): CID has informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne that investigations have not found any evidence to show abduction of the Swiss Embassy staff Garnier Banister Francis.

CID has submitted report to the court that as per investigations conducted so far and the statements given by Swiss Embassy staff Garnier Banister Francis no evidence has been found to show that an incident took place at the No. 2/2 Palmyra Court, Palmyra Avenue, Colombo 3 address.

Investigation was launched on the grounds that, as reported by Ms Francis to the Swiss Embassy officials, the alleged crime had occurred near the St. Bridget’s Convent in Cinnamon Gardens Police Division. However, during questioning on Dec 8th and 9th Ms. Francis has revealed to the CID that she was abducted at Palmyra Court Apartments Complex in Kollupitiya.

Court was also informed by CID that investigations conducted reviewing the telephone records also do not confirm that such a crime has occurred. The CID said they were unable to record her full statement on December 8 as she had fainted twice while giving her statement.
