Colombo, Dec 30 (BAN/ AD): Parliamentarian Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has been granted bail by Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Court had remanded him in until today in connection with the ‘white van’ media conference on November 10 before presidential elections.
MP Senaratne was freed on 2 personal sureties of Rs. 500,000 each. Court has restricted him from traveling abroad and ordered to hand over his passport to the courts. He is also asked to refrain from making a statement to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) upon his discharge from the hospital.
On December 27 MP Senaratne was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department in connection with the controversial ‘white van’ news conference while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Narahenpita. The prison authorities yesterday decided to let the former minister stay at the prison hospital while under remand custody after his doctors refused to discharge him on the grounds of his health condition.
