Colombo, Aug 9 (BAN/ AD): Court has ordered Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to seize Rs. 1.13 billion worth property and cash belonging to the leader of National Thowheed Jammath terrorist group, Mohamed Saharan. He has been accused of series of suicide bombings on Easter Sunday.
During a press briefing CID Director SSP Shani Abeysekara said that the CID has informed the court and the assets have been frozen on the orders of the court. Among the seized assets are Rs. 1 billion worth properties and Rs. 130 million in cash and in bank accounts belonging to 41 individuals. Vehicles, houses, factories and gold are among the seized properties.
Until now 63 members of the terrorist group including women, have been arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday suicide attacks. Investigations are underway and will be under detention till further orders. CID is also investigating the assets of Dr. Sihabdeen Mohamed Shafi of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, who is accused of illegally owning Rs 90 million worth of assets.
