Colombo, July 4 (BAN/ AD): A Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathna remanded the former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and IGP Pujith Jayasundara till july 4. They were arrested for failing to prevent the Easter Sunday terrorist bombings despite having prior knowledge of the attack.
Former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and IGP Pujith Jayasundara were arrested from hospital where they were receiving treatments on Tuesday. Both are facing charges of criminal negligence and the failure to prevent or minimize the attacks that killed over 250 people including 47 foreigners.
The Attorney General Dappula de Livera had instructed the Acting IGP to arrest IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando in connection with the investigation into the terror attack on Easter Sunday.
During enquiry CID informed the Court yesterday that former Defense Secretary and IGP had received several intelligence information briefs regarding the attack but had not taken any action to prevent the attacks. Court has further ordered to produce them on 9th july.
