Colombo: Rival PM’s in island nation are battling to attract lawmakers from opposing sides, as they sought numbers to swing any parliamentary vote of confidence to end political crisis.
S.B. Nawinna defected from Wickremesinghe’s United National Party, and was awarded with the cultural affairs portfolio in Rajapakse’s government.
A deputy from a Tamil party supporting Wickremesinghe also switched sides and was made a deputy minister.
SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem said the political horse-trading made an early parliament meeting even more important.
