Dengue deaths: 100 lives lost so far in 2019

Colombo, Dec 14 (BAN/ AD): As per sources in the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health 100 lives have lost so far in 2019. As per records of Epidemiology Unit so far this year 88,371 suspected dengue cases were reported in Sri Lanka. Highest numbers of cases are reported in Colombo district.

Western province accounts to 44.8 % of dengue cases. The highest number of dengue patients this year was reported from the Colombo District which is 18,237 while 13,758 dengue patients were reported from the Gampaha district and 7,515 cases were from Kalutara District. Kandy, Galle and Jaffna districts also reported over 6,000 dengue cases in each district.

Compared to 2018 an increase of 36,712 dengue patients is reported. In 2018 58 deaths were recorded due to dengue.
