Colombo, Sep 30 (BAN/ AD): As train strike has entered 5th day commuters are severely affected. Eventhough strike today morning 10 office trains have operated. State Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Ashoka Abeysinghe has confirmed this information.
Minister Ashoka Abeysinghe told around 20 retired railway station masters have joined the service on a daily contract basis. He also said instructions have been given to operate a special bus service near railway stations. Six trains operated this morning from the Maho Junction, Kurunegala, Chilaw, Galle, Kandy, Rambukkana and Avissawella to Colombo Fort.
Railway trade union strike has been on strike for last 5 days demanding to resolve their salary anomalies issue. The railways strike is causing severe inconvenience to the commuters.
On Monday cabinet subcommittee will meet to find a solution to the railway employees’ issues. Railways trade unions have said strike will continue indefinitely if demands are not met.
