Dhaka, Oct 10 (BAN/ AD): Dhaka has been ranked 40th in Air Quality Index as on Thursday morning. Post rains in capital there has seen a significant improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI).
As per ACI ranking Delhi topped the list of cities with the worst air quality with a score of 195 followed by Vietnam’s Hanoi, and Indonesia’s Jakarta with scores of 186 and 173 respectively.
The AQI, an index for reporting daily air quality, informs people how clean or polluted the air of a certain city is, and what associated health effects might be a concern for them. In Bangladesh, the AQI is based on five criteria pollutants – Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2, and Ozone (O3).
These standards aim to protect against adverse human health impacts. Dhaka is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, and has been fighting air pollution for a long time. During monsoon air quality improves and worsens during summer.
