Dhaka: Heavy rainfall disrupts city life

Dhaka, July 12 (BAN/ AD): There has been heavy downfall of rain in last 2 days which has disrupted city life. The Met office recorded 48mm of rainfall between 12pm and 2pm in Dhaka. The city traffic came to an halt causing trouble to citizens. Continuous downpour on Friday has caused water logging in many areas, causing city dwellers to suffer. Many major roads like Mirpur Road, Nayapaltan, Green Road, Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue and Motijheel became submerged due to the heavy rain. Low-lying areas at Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Rampura, Banani-11, Tejgaon, Karwan Bazar, Monipuri para, Kazipara, Begum Rokeya Sarani, Mohammadpur and Dhanmondi were also inundated.

Low lying homes were flooded and people were stranded. As roads were flooded public transport was hit making commuters suffer. Motor vehicles were seen stuck in water with their engines drowned in knee-deep water.

Many citizens were seen swimming to reach their destinations. The Met office recorded 48mm of rainfall between 12pm and 2pm in Dhaka.
