haka, July 31 (BAN/ AD): While hearing a writ petition the HC observed that no one in the country should consider themselves a VIP (very important person) other than the president and the prime minister.
While hearing a writ petition filed seeking Tk3 crore as compensation for the family of Titas Ghosh High Court bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader made the comment. The bench also said it will deliver its directives after receiving the probe report over the incident.
The incident happened on July 25, when a road accident victim Titas died in an ambulance on his way to Dhaka after the ferry service was delayed for three hours while waiting for the arrival of a joint secretary.
The rights organization, Legal Support and People’s Right was represented by Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Mohammad Zahir Uddin who had filed the petition on Tuesday. The petition also requested the court to direct the government to take steps so the ferries would prioritize ambulances carrying critical patients.
The respondents to writ were the secretary of the Shipping Ministry, Road Transport and Highway Division, the inspector general of police, and the BIWTC chairman.
