Colombo, April 16: Lanka government has announced that UK visitors will be granted free visa on arrival from 1 May 2019. This scheme is given to 36 countries in total. If this scheme is successful in attracting tourists then it will be extended beyond 6 months. Presently £27 is cost of a 30-day double-entry visa for British nationals.
Total of 36 country nationals will be granted this scheme. In addition to the UK, citizens from the 27 other EU countries, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea will also be eligible. Over last decade there has been significant increase in tourists.
John Amaratunga minister of tourism development said “We will start granting a free visa period for six months from 1 May 2019 for some selected countries during our off-peak period,” he also added “This will be a major step forward in attracting more visitors this year.”
