Dhaka, July 29 (BAN/ AD): As Rohingya crisis is finding no solution Bangladesh has handed over a fresh list of 25,000 Rohingyas to Myanmar for verification before their repatriation to Rakhine State. Currently Bangladesh Cox Bazar is home to around 1.1 million Rohingya refugees.
So far 55,000 names have been handed over to the Myanmar authorities. Acting Foreign Secretary Kamrul Ahsan conveyed it to reporters after a lengthy meeting with a Myanmar delegation– led by its Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Myint Thu– on Monday.
As recent talks between Myanmar representatives and Rohingya leaders failed Kamrul Ahsan said trust deficit remains among Rohingyas. Since crisis began in August 17 over 1.1 million Rohingyas have sought refuge in Bangladesh. On November 23, 2017 Bangladesh and Myanmar have signed the repatriation deal. To facilitate Rohingya return on January 16, 2018, Bangladesh and Myanmar signed a document on “Physical Arrangement.” The agreement mentions that the repatriation will be completed preferably within two years from the start.
On November 15 2018 the first batch of Rohingyas was scheduled to return to Rakhine state but it was called off amid unwillingness of Rohingyas to return for lack safety back home.
