Germany urged to put pressure on Myanmar in Rohingya repatriation

Dhaka, Oct 19 (BAN/ AD): On Friday Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen met German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas in Berlin and requested to put pressure on Myanmar for Rohingya repatriation. He also welcomed German car manufacturers to invest in Bangladesh and set up their assembly plants.

Dr Momen told that in last 2 years not a single Rohingya has been repatriated. He told his German counterpart that despite Myanmar agreeing to take the Rohingyas back, not a single Rohingya has gone back to their country. He asked the German foreign minister to put pressure on Myanmar on this issue.

Since August 25 2017 Bangladesh is home to over 1.1 million Rohingyas who entered through Cox’s Bazar after military crackdown in Rakhine State. Momen invited German car manufacturers like Mercedes, BMW and Volkswagen to invest in Bangladesh and set up their assembly plants in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpanagar in Chittagong.
