GMOA’s threat to election monitoring organizations condemned by CaFFE

Colombo, Nov 01 (BAN/ AD): Ahmed Manas Makeen the acting executive director of CaFFE which is Election watchdog has strongly condemned the state doctors’ trade union, Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) threatening election monitoring organizations.

He has said that it was unethical for the GMOA to convene a press conference yesterday and publicly criticize election monitoring organizations. At a press conference CaFFE’s acting executive director issued a statement. The GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge and Dr. Naveen de Zoysa at a press conference.

CaFFE works impartially to ensure a free and fair election and if there is any violation of election laws, it takes action. Campaign for Free and Fair Elections stresses that although the Government Medical Officers Association has the right to present their proposals for the election manifestos, it has no legal right to participate in the launching of the manifesto.

CaFFE said it has received a total of 554 complaints, of which 26 are related to the media bias.
