Government overcomes No Confidence Motion moved by opposition

Colombo, July 12 (BAN/ AD): Government has successfully overcome No Confidence motion moved by the opposition Marxist party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP). Government won by majority of 27 votes.

As per parliament sources “The Vote of No Confidence on the Prime Minister, Cabinet and Government was negatived by the House after having taken a division.”

During the debate, Government Ministers and MPs questioned the JVP as to why a NCM was not tabled against Sirisena, given his direct culpability in the bombings as the Defense Minister.

A total of 119 members voted against the motion while 92 members voted in favour of no-confidence motion.
