Colombo, April 17: Eran Wickramaratne Finance minister had wide-ranging talks in the US which concluded sometime back. Sri Lankan delegation was led by Finance minister for IMF Spring Meetings in Washington DC from 08th – 13th April 2019, he was accompanied by Secretary to the Treasury, Dr R.H.S. Samaratunga, Central Bank Governor, Dr Indrajit Coomaraswamy and senior officials from the Treasury and Central Bank.
The delegation had meetings with several high ranking IMF and World Bank officials on fiscal and financial sector reforms, project financing and sustainable economic growth and stability. Finance minister also had meetings with Ambassador Alice Wells, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs of the State during which they focused on the trajectory of US – SL relations, Sri Lanka’s micro and macro economic fundamentals, prospects for investment led economic growth, US’s Indo – Pacific Strategy viz a viz prospects for collaboration for regional peace, security and development, US – SL Partnership Dialogue, MCC Compact among others.
Wickramaratne explained Lanka’s balanced foreign policy and assured the continuance of relations with its traditional regional partners. He also stressed on funding for climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
