Dhaka, Oct 21 (BAN/ AD): On Sunday Omar Faruk Chowdhury was expelled from post of Chairman of Jubo League. The decision was taken by Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina during a meeting of the Awami League chief and central leaders of Jubo League at Ganabhaban. Omar Faruk Chowdhury was not invited to the meeting.
As party is going through crisis as its top leaders are accused of running casinos and corrupt improprieties. Omar Faruk Chowdhury was oldest chairman of Jubo League, he is 71 year old and got the post at the age of 64 in 2012.
He has not been seen in public since 2 weeks as his name surfaced in various media because of allegations of corruption. Many members of the Jubo League committee were unhappy with Omar Faruk Chowdhury because of his corrupt practices in the formation of various committees of the youth front.
After the government launched the crackdown last month, Faruk criticised it saying he believed it was a conspiracy against his organisation. On October 3, Bangladesh Bank’s Financial Intelligence Unit asked all banks and financial institutions to send information on the bank accounts of Omar Faruk within three working days.
