Colombo, Sep 17 (BAN/ AD): On Monday Lotus Tower tallest in south asia was declared open to public by President Maithripala Sirisena. The tower is funded by Chinese government is 350 m tall and has costed US $ 104.3 million and is considered to be the tallest tower in South Asia.
In 2012 Sri Lanka and China had signed agreement under the Belt and Road Initiative to build the highest TV tower in South Asia. The general contractors were China National Electronics Import and Export Corporation (CEIEC).
The Lotus Tower will act as a single transmission hub for telecommunications, Digital TV and radio, helping to reduce the carbon footprint in the city whilst improving the quality of transmissions. Apart from being transmission hub Lotus tower houses a telecommunication museum, a restaurant, supermarkets, food courts, conference halls with seating for 400 people, a 1,000-seat auditorium, luxury hotel rooms, ballrooms and an observation deck.
