Colombo, Nov 21 (BAN/ AD): On November 20 UNICEF rang the Opening Bell to commence trading at the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) in commemoration of 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and to mark World Children’s Day.
The UNCRC came into existence on 20 November 1989, signed by 194 countries including Sri Lanka. UNCRC has been helping children for last 30 years.
Celebrations follow UNICEF’s Ara Wade; A Vote For Children Campaign, which aimed to raise awareness among leaders and the public of the six critical issues facing Sri Lanka’s six million children that require urgent action.
UNICEF was represented by UNICEF in Sri Lanka Representative Tim Sutton, Deputy Representative Emma Brigham and other senior officials from UNICEF. The CSE was represented by CEO Rajeeva Bandaranaike and the Senior Management of the Exchange. The event was also attended by Acting UN Resident Coordinator Dr. Razia Pendse and invitees from the Sri Lankan business community.
