Cox Bazar, July 27 (BAN/ AD): In a first ever meeting between Myanmar delegation and 35 leaders of Rohingya community has ended without a solution. The Rohingya exodus began in late August 2017. The meeting was arranged between leaders of different Rohingya community who are sheltered in Bangladesh and the Government of Myanmar representatives.
As per sources both parties had differences on the issue of granting citizenship to the persecuted community. Since August 2017 when Rohingya crisis began this is first face to face meeting between 2 parties. The Myanmar government still denying citizenship to Rohingyas, which is their major demand.
Although todays meeting ended without solution only benefit is that both the sides have decided to sit again, but the date and the venue are yet to be decided. The meeting went on for 2 hours at the extension of camp number 4 at Balukhali in Ukhia. The Myanmar delegation, however, did not speak to the media. The Myanmar delegation consisted of 17 members.
The meeting was facilitated by Bangladeshi representatives included Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Mohammad Abul Kalam and Bangladesh Ambassador to Myanmar Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, among others.
