MeToo: Sri Lanka’s pacer Lasith Malinga accused of sexual harassment during IPL

British Asia News Network

Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a Mumbai hotel.

After an Indian flight attendant had accused former Sri Lanka skipper Arjuna Ranatunga of sexually harassing her, star Islander pacer Lasith Malinga has now also been accused of sexual assault by a singer named Chinmayi Sripaada at a Mumbai hotel.

“I’d like to remain anonymous. A few years back when I was in Mumbai, I was looking for my friend in the hotel we were staying in. I bumped into a very famous Sri Lankan cricketer during the IPL season who said my friend was in his room,” the famous singer’s post read.

The 25-year-old pacer is one of Sri Lanka’s greatest bowlers in limited-overs formats. In 207 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), he has taken 306 wickets and 90 wickets in 68 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

Malinga, who was sidelined by the selectors after home series against India in 2017, returned to the limited-overs side last month after a year, during Sri Lanka’s stint in the Asia Cup.
