Sri Lanka: With the arrest of underworld drug kingpin Makandure Madush in Dubai, Anti-Corruption Force Operations Director Namal Kumara said he would be willing to work as the hangman to execute Makandure Madush or any other criminal sentenced to death.
Speaking to local news sources, he said he was pleased with the positive remarks made by President Maithripala Sirisena for implementing the death penalty in near future.
He said, “I would regard this as a social service rather than a profession.” He said he would be willing to work without pay.
He believes that the death penalty should be given to mastermind criminals like Makandure Madush.
Meanwhile, a prison official has revealed that the position of hangman is still vacant and that an advertisement had been put in local papers but there had been no interest as of yet to fill the position.
It has also been mentioned by the Prisons Department Spokesman Thushara Upuldeniya that whom so ever wished to apply would be subject to certain criteria and training programme.
