Colombo, Sep 26 (BAN/ AD): Nationwide strike has been launched by railways trade unions from midnight Sep 25. Railway employees including station masters, controllers, guards and engine drivers will be participating in the strike. Strike has been called as union demands for higher salaries are not yet taken up.
Unions have blamed that railways salaries have not been revised despite salaries for public sector have been increased. Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has cancelled leave of drivers, conductors, and technical staff citing Railway strike.
Despite strike launched several trains had operated on 26 Sep. 6 trains have been operatimg despite strike. However, the Deputy Minister of Transport Ashoka Abeysinghe said that authorities have not been notified regarding the strike.
