New legislation to be enacted to regulate Islamic education after cabinet approval

Colombo, July 8 (BAN/ AD): As per sources Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Sunday has sought Cabinet approval to enact new legislation for the regulation of Islamic education. The proposal was discussed by Cabinet of Ministers on Sunday. The regular Cabinet meeting will not be conducted tomorrow because the President is planning to travel abroad on a private visit.  

PM proposed new legislation a regulatory commission is to be set up and will have top officials such as the Secretaries to the Ministries of Education, Higher Education, leading Muslim clerics etc. Post deadly 21 April bombings there was discussion on the need to regulate Islamic centres of education.
