Colombo, June 25 (BAN/ AD): Facebook has added new tools to curb the spread of hate speech in Sri Lanka and Myanmar. TechCrunch reports that Facebook is attempting to make it difficult for individuals to spread messages using Facebook Messanger, by implementing a restriction on how many times it can be forwarded.

In India Facebook had introduced similar feature for WhatsApp last year where it restricted 1 person from sending one message to only 5 people. Post Easter Sunday attacks government had temporarily banned Facebook and other social media platforms in order to curb hate content and rumors.

As per reports Facebook is facing similar situation in India, Philippines and Indonesia. Indonesia banned the usage of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp after a riot.
