Colombo, June 29 (BAN/ AD): Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe before Christmas reconstruction of the Zion Church in Batticaloa, which was destroyed by the Easter Sunday bomb attacks would be completed. On Saturday morning PM visited Zion Church and made this observation.
PM studied the reconstruction progress by army and appreciated Army officers and soldiers who are performing the task quickly and efficiently. PM also said his government is paying attention towards physical and psychological damage of the persons affected by the April 21 bombing of the church.
The Zion Church in Batticaloa is one of the three churches attacked by the extremist Muslim group National Thowheed Jamath on Easter Sunday. Pastor Roshan Mahesh Manoshan stated that he is grateful for the support given by the Prime Minister and the Government following the incident.
PM addressed media and said that government has already paid first round of compensation to deceased and injure in attacks. He said Rs. 185 million has been paid for 189 deaths and Rs. 53million has been paid for 403 people injured in the attacks.
PM also said a trust fund is being set up for children orphaned and to reconstruct the three churches damaged in the attacks. PM later visited the Catholic and Anglican Churches in Batticaloa.
