PM: Hambantota port under control of Sri Lanka

Colombo, April 5: PM has clarified that Hambantota port is under Lanka control amid reports that it will be handed over to Chinese government. There are rising concerns with India that Chinese influence in region will increase. PM while addressing the two-day long Third Asia Europe Political Forum here said Sri Lanka maintains cordial relations with all nations.

He further added “India is our partner from our history. We share same civilisation with Pakistan and Bangladesh. We joined Japan at the San Francisco Conference. Despite the opposition from the United States, Sri Lanka recognised People’s Republic of China and first signed a trade agreement. We will maintain this situation. Wickremesinghe said that it was important for the island nation that there is no military conflict in the Indian Ocean.

PM confirmed that Hambantota airport the Sri Lankan cabinet has approved a joint-venture between the Sri Lanka Airport Authority and the Indian Aviation Authority. Japan is developing central didtrict of Kandy while India is developing in the North and East. PM said that it is important to maintain good relations in region to develop its infrastructure.
