Colombo, Oct 31 (BAN/ AD): On Wednesday while addressing journalists at Temple Trees PM Ranil has said he will continue as the Prime Minister for the next five years after New Democratic Front (NDF) presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa wins. The conference was held to brief the progress review of the government’s five year plan. Senior journalists, intellectuals and economists were in attendance at the briefing.
PM said when his government came to power in 2015 country was in huge debt and economy was in bad state. He said this while responding to questions on why Sri Lanka is lagging behind other south Asian countries.
PM said “We had a problem of big debt, to stabilize the economy. Had to get confidence. We were in a position that we couldn’t even borrow, foreign borrowing to pay off the foreign loans? We stabilized the economy in 2018. Again in 2020 everyone expects us to perform the same way.” He also added “Revenues have gone up, we must have the necessary investments. We are on the verge of a take-off. We are in a region that is growing fast. We are ready for it now,” the Premier said.
PM assured that country is on path of economic development and he will continue as the Prime Minister while Sajith Premadasa is the President.
