Colombo, June 5 (BAN/ AD): Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that after mass resignation of Muslim ministers for the first time, government has no ministers from the Muslim community. Nine ministers from the Muslim community, and two provincial governors resigned on Monday. They have accused the government of failing to protect Muslim community from violence post Easter Sunday bomb attacks.
The National Thowheeth Jamaath (NTJ), linked to the IS, carried out a series of bomb blast in three churches and as many luxury hotelson April 21.
PM said “For the first time a government is functioning without Muslim ministers in it,” Wickremesinghe said. It is the first time since the island nation’s independence in 1948 that no Muslims are part of the government.
Buddhist community monks, had launched a protest in the pilgrim city of Kandy, demanding the removal of three Muslim leaders whom they alleged were linked to the NTJ.
