President gives general amnesty for civil defense officers

Colombo, Jan 17 (BAN/ AD): Civil defense officers have been given a general amnesty period who have left the service at the Civil Security Department. They will have to report back to work before February 20.

Director General of Civil Security Department, Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris (Retired) said that officers who have completed 10 years of service will receive a pension. Under the directives of the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa a week-long general amnesty has also been declared for tri-forces absentees. The general amnesty period will be in force for 7 days commencing from 05th February 2020.

Officers who left before 30 September 2019 will be able to rejoin the service or legally resign before 12th February. Commodore DKP Dassanayake has been promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral. He is accused in the abduction and disappearance of 11 youths during 2008-2009.
