President Sirisena stresses on equal standards for State and Private Universities

Colombo, Sep 21 (BAN/ AD): President Sirisena during an gathering of medical students at the Sir John Kotelawala Defense University on Friday has said that there should be policies bringing state and private universities at equal par. He told his policy is that there should be public and private universities in every subject area and should be of equal standards.

He also told that Rs. 8 billion a year in foreign exchange flows out of the country for children studying in foreign countries. The President said he considers all children of the country as his own children and the rulers should love the country’s children just as much as their parents love them.

President during his address requested the medical and engineering students that they should be serving their country for minimum 10 years after their first appointment. He pointed out that most doctors and engineers migrate to foreign countries which is a loss to Sri Lanka. He reminded students of their commitment and responsibility towards motherland.

Several dignitaries present at event were Defense Secretary, General Shantha Kottegoda, Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University Air Vice Marshal Sagara Kotakadeniya and several lecturers.
