Railways to turn profitable soon: PM Hasina

Dhaka, Oct 16 (BAN/ AD): On Wednesday PM during an press conference said government is planning to bring entire railway network including southern part under single network. PM also said she will make the railway a profitable sector soon.

PM made this statement while launching the intercity train Kurigram Express and newly-imported coaches of Rangpur Express, and Lalmoni Express.

PM said “We want to show that what was once considered to be non-profitable rail routes can be turned into a profitable service through modernizing the entire system.” She also added “I think it was a suicidal decision for Bangladesh because the common people mostly choose rail as their way of commutation. It is essential for a country to have rail, water, air, and road transport system.”

While talking to the locals of Lalmonirhat, she said the government is establishing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University (BSMRAAU) in the northern district.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan also spoke at the launching function, joining the video conference from Kurigram.
