New York, Sep 30 (BAN/ AD): Rally which was organised by Awami League was attacked outside UN headquarters in New York. Scuffles occurred as activists of ruling party and the BNP were also gathered.
Awami League leaders accused the attacks were planned by members of the Jamaat-e-Islam and its youth front Chhatra Shibir under BNP’s banner.
As Awami league group were shouting slogans in support of Hasina BNP activists attacked them. But tensions increased as BNP activists made derisory chants about the prime minister, raising the ire of their rivals.
New York Metropolitan Awami League’s Acting President Zakaria Chowhdhury said “Chhatra Shibir leaders under BNP’s banner hurled brickbats which injured two Awami League activists.” The two sides later conducted their programmes separately under police watch.
